Common Scams & How to Avoid Them

Romance & Social Media Scams

Scammers build relationships with victims online, gaining their trust before asking for money or personal information. These scams can happen through dating apps, social media, or even email.

Warning Signs:

Someone you’ve never met in person asks for money due to an emergency.

  • They quickly profess love and push for a fast-moving relationship.
  • They refuse to meet in person or video chat, often using excuses like “working overseas.”

How to Stay Safe:
  • Never send money to someone you haven’t met in person.
  • Be skeptical of overly affectionate messages from strangers.
  • Run a reverse image search to see if their profile pictures are stolen from someone else.
